Now that our basement project is completed, I decided it was time to move on up the stairs to the laundry room. The first room in a long line of painting and updating we have to do, but a nice way to ease into things.
It had all the makings of a quick and gratifying project...
It's a small room and it only needs a fresh coat of paint on the walls and trim. That and some reorganizing and cute touches here and there would be all it takes to complete this project. Perfect!
Well...here's how she looked before:
And here's how she turned out...
Beautiful, right?
I know what you're thinking:
"Mrs. Gumshoe...How can I update my laundry room to look as beautiful and functional as yours does?"
Well, it certainly wasn't easy and it takes a lot of talent, but I'll let you in on my secrets!
First, be sure to empty the contents of your laundry room directly into your home's entryway so that it is impassable. Don't worry, though...this is a short project so your entryway will be cleared out again in no time! And if your husband happens to work the 4th of July shift and comes home at midnight-just make sure he uses the back door which he has no key for and you failed to unlock for him.
Next, get 3/4 of the way through your painting project before you ask your husband to move the washer and dryer. Once the heavy lifting is over, make sure you locate a leak coming from the washer's hookup. This leak should be easy to spot since all of the drywall surrounding it will be completely warped.
Oh! Yep...there it is!
Cut out the drywall to create a giant hole exposing the studs, pipes and insulation.
This will give your laundry room that rustic look you weren't going for at all.
After that, you might as well rip up all of the flooring. No time like the present, right?
And for the icing on the cake...make sure that the only plumber your husband trusts just happens to be on vacation until the 11th. That will really add the finishing touch to that quick weekend project!
Have fun!
I know we are!
